From the left-over yarns of the Far East Pullover I decided to knit a hat. I found a vintage beret pattern from Vintage Knitting Pattern Archive, and it must be from 1940s by the looks of it. The black and white photography and the hair-styles of the models look like 1940s, or possibly 1930s. And the splash of colour on the leaflet is a thrifty production method, which would suit the post-war era of 40s, when need for thrifty scrap yarn projects was greater too. It is a children's pattern and designed for thinner fingering weight yarn, and my yarns were sport or aran weights, so I modified it while knitting. I used 3 mm and 3.5 mm needles. And the yarns are mostly by Novita and Alize. | |
