Tätityyli / Timeless style

Tämä merkkiä vailla ollut mekko löytyi kirpparilta joitain vuosia sitten muutamalla eurolla. Siinä oli isot pöyhkeät hihat, mikä viittasi 1980-luvun muotiluomukseen. Hihat leikkaamalla siitä tuli kuitenkin kevyempi ja ajattoman vintagehenkinen. Tyyliltäään se edustaa tätityyliä, joka muistuttaa isotädistäni. Isotätini pukeutui tyylikkäästi sävy sävyyn mekkoihin ja villatakkeihin lähes aina ja omakin tyylikkyyskäsitykseni perustuu paljolti häneen. Hän puolestaan kehitti tyylinsä ehkä 1950-luvulla toivuttuaan sodasta. Se pysyi aika lailla samana vuosikymmeniä. Tätityyli on ajattoman tyylikästä.

This dress is thrifted few years back for few euros and it was without labels. It had big 1980s style sleeves that I chopped off and now it looks more like airy 1930s style. This style reminds me of my great aunt who wore mostly dresses in similar style and length. She had been a nurse in the war and lost her fiancé there. Purple was her favourite colour and she wore dresses with matching cardigans and costume jewelry. My idea of style is largely based on her aesthetic that was formed probably around 1950s.

 The shoes are thrifted by my mom for 12 euros. Smart shoes are the basis of a granny or autie style, but they can have a touch of fun and everyday luxury, like these with gold colour.

 

Pallojalka / Pompom shoe makeover

Kaupan alelaarissa vastaan tuli puukenkä-tyyppiset sandaalit vitosella. Ne olivat väriltään vähän liian 70-lukulaiset, mutta lestiltään mukavat. Ostin ne siis ja tuunasin paremmiksi muutamalla Taito-shopista ostetulla pompulalla, joita myytiin 20 senttiä kipale. Inspiraatiokuvia etsiessäni huomasin, että tämä tupsutossu-trendi taisi olla jo pari vuotta sitten, mutta se ei haittaa. Kengät sopivat tuunaamaani pompulakauluriin.

I saw clogs on sale for five euros and though the colour isn't completely to my liking, the fit is good. So I decided to spice them up with few pompoms. It seems that the pompom shoes were all the rage two years ago, so these are kinda last season already. But they are nice and match the fluffy necklace I made few years ago.

Hattivattipopot / Moomin makeover for shoes

Noin vuosi sitten tein ensimmäiset neulekenkäni käyttäen ruotsalaisen Kamillan ilmaisohjetta Tutorial - how to knit a shoe. Ne ovat oikein mukavat ja yhdet edullisimmista ja persoonallisimmista kengistäni. Nyt kirpparilta löytyi kenkäpari 1,5 eurolla ja mustaa ja valkoista lakaa oli varastossa, joten kokeilin uutta kuviota. Suomalaisen Soile Maritan Hattivatti-lapaset oli joskus saatavilla ilmaiseksi Ravelrystä, josta ohjeen latasin. Muokkasin niistä kengän muotoisen pinnan, jonka neuloin Novita Nallesta 2.5 mm puikoilla. Kuvio on hieman liian iso, mutta hattivatit toivottavasti tunnistaa.
I made first pair of knitted shoes about a year ago using a free Tutorial - how to knit a shoe by Swedish designer Kamilla. Now I tried another pattern with a group of Hattifattener from the Moomins. I modified a Hattifattener mittens pattern by Finnish Soile Marita. The pattern is slightly big for the shoes , but the characters pop out enough thanks to the colour contrast. The shoes cost 1,5 euros in a thrift store and I had black and white yarns in my stash.

Tennarituunaus / Knitting iconic shoes

Ravelrystä löytyi ruotsalaisen Kamillan ohje, Tutorial - how to knit a shoe, tennarien päällystämiseen neulepinnalla. Muokkasin mallia tekemällä yhtenäisen neulepinnan takasauman sijasta ja neuloin palat paikalleen liimaamisen sijaan. Lisäksi käytin mallikaaviona ihailemaani japanilaisen Makiho Negishin Arrow mittens ja Arrow socks -mallia, jotka on saatavilla ilmaiseksi. Päällystettävät kengät löytyivät alun perin kirpparilta 3.90 eurolla.
I had seen a fantastic Tutorial - how to knit a shoe by Swedish Kamilla in Ravelry. I used that to hack my second hand shoes and knitted a new surface for them using Arrow mittens and Arrow socks patterns by Japanese knitter Makiho Negishi. I modified the shoe pattern by knitting the backside as one piece, and I also stitched the pieces in place instead of gluing them.

Kengistä / About shoes

Karen Homerin kirjasta Mitä naisen tulee tietää kengistä opin muun muassa, miten keskiajalla jossain päin Eurooppaa tehtiin lakiehdotuksia liian korkeiden kenkien kieltämiseksi. Korokepohja kuitenkin suojasi kulkijaa roskaisilla kaduilla kulkiessa. Vasta 1700-luvulla, julkisten paikkojen siistiydyttyä, kengistäkin tuli sirompia.
Things a Woman Should Know About Shoes by Karen Homer was a pretty package on the history of the shoe. It ended on a reminder, that if shoe addiction gets out of hand, it is good to keep in mind that the deepest meaning of shoes is to protect the feet.

Mekko on muutaman euron kirpputorilöytö, kengät Italiasta outlet-liikkeestä jossa kaikki oli 15 euroa. Ystäväni osti yhden parin, itse en kehdannut ostaa kahta paria enempää.
The dress is a second hand find that has the look and properties of a paper bag (it wrinkles easily). The shoes are from an outlet in Milan, where all shoes were 15 euros. My travelling companion bought one pair, I got two pairs of shoes.

Isotädin vanha hame on luultavasti 1970-luvulta. Paita on Monkista ja sandaalit outlet-ostos noin kympillä.
The skirt is from my great aunt and propably homemade in the 70s. Shirt is from Monki and sandals from an outlet for a tenner.

Kenkäviestintää / Shoe messages

Luin italialaisen Paola Jacobbin kirjan Haluan nuo kengät! ja sain uusia näkökulmia popoihin. Ihmiselämän aikana kipiteltävät noin 3000 kilometriä kuluvat pääosin eri kengissä. Historiallisesti ensimmäinen jalkine lähes kaikissa kulttuureissa on ollut sandaali. Valikoima on laventunut ja kengät lähettävät nykyään monenlaista viestiä käyttäjästään. Pompadour-korko esimerkiksi kehittyi lyhyehkön Aurinkokuninkaan iloksi, mutta nykyään korkeat korot on pääosin varattu naisille. Myös saappaat ja saapikkaat olivat alun perin miehisiä jalkineita. Naisille on sen sijaan sallittua tehdä sivuhyppyjä miehisiin kenkiin.
I read the Finnish translation of Italian Paola Jocobbis's I want those shoes! in which the writer takes somewhat Italian view to the different aspects of the shoe. I learned for example that people walk approximately 3000 kilometers in their lifetime and nowadays beside practical item shoes are loaded with meaning. Jacobbi states that shoes tell even of in which political party a person stands. At least that was the case in the 70s Italy. And she reminds reader how it all started with a sandal, which is the first shoe of all cultures. I have to disagree with her slipper view, as I own none. I like to slip into woollen socks when indoors. These shoe inspired woolen socks were a Christmas gift few years ago.

Esimerkki järkevistä kengistä, joilla pystyy kävelemään tuntikausia ja jotka ovat myös kiinnostavan näköiset. Nämä ovat kuluneet neljän vuoden ahkerassa käytössä.
These Swedish Hasbeens are a prime example of sensible shoes, that one can walk in for hours and still they look cool. These are quite worn down after 4 years of use though.

The blazer with shoulder pads is from late 80s or early 90s. Shoes are second hand.

1940-lukulaisittain / Elsa from the Forties

40-luvulla vaatteiden käyttö oli materiaalipuutteen vuoksi tarkempaa ja muun muassa puuta, olkea ja korkkia käytettiin asusteisiin. Nämä asusteet ovat alelöytöjä 2000-luvulta.
There was of shortage of materials in the 40s, so for example wood, cork and straw were used for accessories. These shoes and bag are from 2000s though.

Kotimainen komedia Ruma Elsa on vanha elokuvasuosikki jo lapsuudesta. Sound of Music -elokuvan alkuperäistarina ilmestyi kirjana myös alun perin jo 40-luvulla.
Ugly Elsa is a Finnish comedy from the 40s and tells a Cinderella story of a bookish rebel. The book that later became known as Sound of Music was originally published in the Forties as well.

1920-lukulaisittain / Peppy from the Twenties

 

1920-luvun henkeä vintage-mekossa, huopahelmissä ja lainahatussa.
Channelling the twenties in a vintage dress, felt peals and loaned hat.

Ylemmät kengät kirpputorilta, alemmat alesta. Ja 20-luvun tyyliä voi ihailla myös elokuvassa The Artist.
The top shoes second hand, boots are a sales find. And for admiring more 20s style pastiche I would recommend The Artist.

Kenkäfriikki / Mad about shoes

Olen ehkä vähän kenkäfriikki. Kun näen kauniit tai hauskat kengät, ne on saatava jos vain budjetti sallii. Osa näistä on outlet-ostoksia, muutama kirppislöytöjä ja monet matkamuistoja. Lisäksi kirpputorilta on löytynyt myös kenkiin sopivaa inspiraatiokirjallisuutta.
I have to confess that I am bit mad about shoes: If I see pretty or funny shoes, I have to have them, especially if the price is right. Some of these are outlet bargains, others are second hand finds and many are souvenirs from my travels.



 

Isoäidinneliöitä ja muita olioita / Freeform-ish crochet




Virkkasin ison kasan mohair-villaisia neliöitä, kuutioita ja ympyröitä ilman suurempaa käyttösuunnitelmaa. Niistä sai lopulta koottua tällaisen ponchon. Villasukat on ostettu latvialaiselta torimyyjämummolta.
I crocheted a pile of mohair-wool-blend squares, circles and hexagons. I had no plan of what to do with the pieces, but ended up making a poncho. The woollen socks are from a Latvian market stall Grandma.

Ponchoa voi pyörittää tai vaikka kietoa tiiviimmin huiviksi.
The poncho does not have a spesific front side, but it works many ways and even as a scarf.




Kengät olivat alennuksessa noin 15 eurolla värivirheen vuoksi. Toinen kenkä oli toista tummempi, mutta ero tasoittui kun toisen kengän antoi ottaa aurinkoa ikkunalaudalla parisen viikkoa.
The boots were on sale for about 15 euros due to a colour difference in the shoes. After I left the darker shoe on the window sill for couple of weeks, the colour difference was pretty much gone.

Muodokas Barcelona / Barcelona shapes

Barcelonan käynnistä on jo vuosikymmen, mutta arkkitehti Antoni Gaudin kauniit rakennukset jäivät mieleen. Tässä Barcelonan tuntua asun muodossa. 1990-luvun neule, hattu ja huopahelmet ovat lainassa äidiltä, housut ja kengät alennusmyynneistä.
It's already a decade since the trip to Barcelona, but the beautiful buildings by Antoni Gaudi made a lasting impression. Here I'm channeling Barcelona colours and shapes in my mom's sweater from 1990s, her hat and felt-pearls. Pants and shoes are own sales finds.




Kengät on matkamuisto Barcelonasta 2000-luvun alkupuolelta, matkaopas taisi olla matkassa jo silloin ja kolmiulotteinen Gaudi-kirja on löytynyt myöhemmin.
The shoes were bought from Barcelona in the early 2000s, the travel guide is from those days as well. The 3D Gaudi book was found in a book shop sale later.

The book helps to remember Gaudi's buildings bit better.
