Kirpputorilta löytyi tämä 1947 julkaistu ruotsalainen neulekirja Henriette Ernemarkin Iduns stickbok. Sisäsivuilla on tyylikkäitä ja yksinkertaisia neulemalleja. Vasemmalla myös 1960-luvun ompelukaavoja, jotka on löytyneet kirppareilta niin ikään eurolla kappale.

I got a Swedish knitting book called Iduns stickbok by Henriette Ernemark from thrift store. On the pages of the book there are simple and elegant 1940s patterns. Here on the left there are also some circa 1960s sewing patterns gotten 2nd hand too.

Neulemekko 40-luvun tyyliin / 1940s inspired knit dress

Tämä neulottu mekko on saanut muotonsa vuonna 1949 Virkkaus- ja neuletyöt -lehdessä julkaisun paidan perusteella. Improvisoin ja pyrin samankaltaiseen muotoon, mutta pidensin paidan helmaa polvipituuteen. Puikot vartalo-osiossa 3 mm, hihoissa 3.5 mm, kauluksessa ja hameen alussa 4 mm ja hameen puolivälistä helmaan 4.5 mm. Novitan Lumous-lankaa kului 6 kerää eli 1350 metriä. Lanka on hyvin kevyttä, joten mekko tuntuu ilmavalta.

This handknit dress is inspired by a peplum-top in a Finnish knitting magazine from 1949. I used very different yarn, so I improvised a lot and aimed for a similar shape, but lengthened the pepelum-hem to dress-length. The yarn is Novita Lumous and I used 6 skeins of it, which makes 1350 meters of yarn, but the yarn is very airy and it feels like wearing a cloud. I used smaller needles for the body to make it dense, 3mm, and sleeves are knitted on 3.5 mm and with the collar and top of the skirt I moved on to 4 mm and finally 4.5 mm at the hem.

The beret is diy-make and the rest is ready-to-wear.

Tämän ruotsalaisen Damernas värld'in perusteella hattu oli oleellinen osa daamin asua vuonna 1947. Lisäksi verkko oli ilmeisesti tarpeen pitämään etäällä ne ötökät, joita hattuhin kiinnitetyt kukkaset houkuttelivat.

A hat seemed to be an integral part of garderobe judging by this 1947 issue of a Swedish ladies' journal Damernas värld. There are veiled hats on the cover and inside pages. The veils perhaps counteract against all the bugs that the faux flowers attract.

This old knitting magazine from 1949 has knits that look perfectly wearable and doable even today. The peplum sweater is really lovely.

Kirpparilta löytyi kanneton lehti Virkkaus ja neuletyöt vuodelta 1944. Sota-aikaan pulaa oli ilmeisesti kengistä, kun neuvona oli neuloa tai virkata päälliset puukenkäpohjiiin. Tämä oli tekstin mukaan tyyliä myös Pariisissa ja Wienissä. Tukholmassa suuressa suosiossa puolestaan oli villapuku. 
This knitting magazine from 1944 gives tips on how to knit or crochet shoes for wooden heels. This was necessary during the war, but was described to be in fashion in Paris and Vienna as well. From necessity to virtue. Wool dress was descibed to be popular in Stockholm.

This Finnish ladies' journal from 1943 features many dresses. At first glance I thought it was from the colourful Sixties, but surprisingly enough this is from the war years.

40-luvulla vaatteiden käyttö oli materiaalipuutteen vuoksi tarkempaa ja muun muassa puuta, olkea ja korkkia käytettiin asusteisiin. Nämä asusteet ovat alelöytöjä 2000-luvulta.
There was of shortage of materials in the 40s, so for example wood, cork and straw were used for accessories. These shoes and bag are from 2000s though.

Kotimainen komedia Ruma Elsa on vanha elokuvasuosikki jo lapsuudesta. Sound of Music -elokuvan alkuperäistarina ilmestyi kirjana myös alun perin jo 40-luvulla.
Ugly Elsa is a Finnish comedy from the 40s and tells a Cinderella story of a bookish rebel. The book that later became known as Sound of Music was originally published in the Forties as well.
