Vetoketju vaihtoon / Shiny new zipper

Näiden itse ommeltujen housujen piilovetoketju oli alkanut takkuilla, joten vaihdoin sen uuteen. Olin ostanut jostain käsityöliikkeestä pitsikuvioidun turkoosin vetoketjun, jonka ompelin paikalleen, vaikka se olikin hieman liian lyhyt. Nyt housut on kuitenkin korjattu. Pyrkimykseni oli korjata vähintään kolme vaatetta näin tee-se-itse-toukokuussa.

One of my Me-Made-May pledges was to mend minimum of three things, and these culottes are the third mended piece of clothing of the month. I have sewn these trousers several years ago. The zipper started to get stuck, so I decided to mend the situation by attaching a new zipper. I had bought a lacy novelty zipper from craft store and replaced the old one with that, even if it was tad short. I also attached a hook and a bar to keep the trousers in place.

Farkkujen tuunaus maalilla / Dotty denim refashion

Nämä farkut löytyivät kirpparilta 1.5 eurolla. Ne vaikuttivat vähän liian perusharmailta, joten päätin tuunata niitä maalilla. Ostin tekstiiliväriä 2.9 eurolla ja töpöttelin lyijykynän kumipäällä täpliä ympäri farkkuja, mutta hallitusti. Maalipurkin ohjeissa neuvottiin silittämään maalatut kohdat ja pesemään vaate kuvioiden säilymisen varmistamiseksi. Ja jos nämä täplät haalistuvat kovasti, minulle jäi vielä puoli purkillista tekstiiliväriä, joilla parannella tuunausta. Tällainen pienimuotoinen maalaaminen kesti kyllä yllättävän kauan, noin kolme mysteerisarjan jaksoa kului pikkuisia palloja töpötellessä.

I got these jeans from thrift store for 1.5 euros. They seemed bit too basic and grey for my taste, so I decided to refashion them with dots. One of my old favourite jeans had a dotty pattern, so I tried to make something similar with textile paint, that I got for 2.9 euros. I stamped dots with the eraserhead of a pencil to get uniform sized dots. The paint was fixed with ironing and a wash. And if the black paint fades, I still have half a bottle of paint left. I was aiming for kooky look, so I left one front leg without paint to really make a handmade statement. Overall, I'm satisfied with the result.

Rusettikavalkadi / Petite bows

Tänään yllä omatekoinen neulepaita ja rusetti, joka on ommeltu vanhoista hihoista. Kauluspaita on kirpparilta ja loput kuteet valmisvaatteita.

Today's Me-Made-May outfit consists of a knitted hedgehog sweater and sewn bow-tie, that I made out of left-over fabric. The shirt is thrifted and rest in ready-to-wear.

Niinis-huivi / Niinis mini scarf

Neuloin tämän pienen raitahuivin Jenny Ansahin Niinis-ohjeella kirjasta Itä-Helsinki neuleina. Lankoina käytin itseraidoittuvaa Urth Uneek Fingering -lankaa ja kirkkaan keltavihreää Lankava Sulo-sukkalankaa. Raitalanka teki yllättäen tämän ohjeen kanssa palkkiraitoja, mikä oli miellyttävä yllätys ja tekee huivista entistä hauskemman. Puikkokoot 3 mm huiviosioon ja 4 mm kontrastiväriseen putkireunukseen.

This little scarf is knitted with Niinis pattern, that is designed by Jenny Ansah and published in My City, My Stitches book. I used self-striping Urth Uneek Fingering yarn for the main part, and neon sock yarn for the contrasting i-cord edge. That yarn is Lankava Sulo. Knitting needle sizes used for the scarf were 3 mm and 4 mm.

Värikkäät takit / Coats of many colours

Tänään äitienpäivän kunniaksi äidin itselleen 1970-luvulla ompelemassa printtimekossa sekä äidin ysärillä ostamassa jakkutakissa. Päivän omatekoinen asuste on askarteluhelmistä koottu kaulanauha. Rannekorut torilta, kengät kirpparilta ja loput asusteet uusina ostettuja.  

Today's Me-Made-May outfit includes a mom-made dress from 1970s and mom's old blazer from 1990s. I'm wearing a DIY necklace. Armbands have been bought from a summer market stall. Shoes are thrifted, and rest is ready-to-wear.

Paikkaamista ja nappivaihtokauppaa / Mini-mending in May

Yksi toukokuun tavoitteistani oli korjata muutama vaatekappale. Tästä omatekoisesta raitaliivistä oli irronnut kaksi nappia, jotka olin ommellut luultavasti liian hellävaraisesti paikalleen. Toinen irronnut nappi löytyi, mutta toisen tilalle piti kaivaa varastosta jokin riittävän samankaltainen ja -kokoinen nappi. Vaihdoin tämän yksittäisen valkoisen napin ylimmäiseksi, jotta suora ja armeijanvihreä nappirivi näyttäisi harmonisemmalta. Valmisvaatefarkkuihin puolestaan oli ilmestynyt reikä haaroihin. Paikkasin sen melko huomaamattomasti ompelemalla farkunsinisen paikan reiän alle.  

One of my Me-Made-May pledges was to mend some clothes. This stripey vest, that I've sewn couple of years ago, had lost two buttons. I found one, but had to replace another with different type of button. I switched that white odd-one-out button to the top to keep the harmony. These ready-to-wear jeans had developed a hole around the crotch area. That was fixed with a piece of denim sewn under the hole. Both fixes are more in invisible mending category than in the trendy visible mending method.
