Neulottu toukkamekko / Catepillar stripes dress

Tämä neulemekko on tehty hieman muokaten, tai pääasiassa pidentäen, Andrea Mowryn Stripes!-ohjetta. Olen jo kahdesti neulonut tällä ohjeella hyvin samansävyisen pörröpaidan ja kesäisen puuvillapaidan. Pörröpaidan lahjoitin äidilleni, koska se oli hieman liian iso, mutta pidin sen minttusuklaisista väreistä. Tämä versio on mekkopituinen ja siksi toivottavasti lämmin. Langat on erilaisia mohair-sekoitelankoja, erikoislankoja ja muun muassa beigeä pörrölankaa, joka on kierrätyskeskuksesta ostetusta neuleesta purettua materiaalia. Puikkokokoina 4 mm ja 4.5 mm.

This sweater-dress is knitted with Stripes! pattern that is by designer Andrea Mowry. I have used the same pattern twice before: I made a stripey fluffy pullover smilar to this, that I ended up giving to my mom, and a summer version in cotton-blends. This time I made a fluffy dress that should be very cosy and comfy to wear. Many of the yarns are mohair-blends. And I used part of an unraveled sweater bought from recycling center. The textured beige yarn is very nice indeed. Knitting needles used for this were 4 mm and 4.5 mm.

Joulukalenterimekko / Advent project dress

Tämä virkattu mekko oli tämän joulukuun projektini, johon virkkasin lisää isoäidinneliöitä joka päivä. Raidallinen yläosa on aloitettu jo vuonna 2019, jolloin se jäi kesken. Inspiraationa oli alkuaan Katie Jonesin Blooming Bomber Jacket, josta virkkasin taskut, jotka tässä versiossa ovat koristeellisina olkapäinä. Perhoskuvioon käytin Arne & Carlos -suunnittelijaduon Tonje Crochet Butterfly Throw -ohjetta. Langat on pääasiassa kevyitä mohairsekoitelankoja, joten mekko ei ole painava vaikka siihen on virkattu paljon lankaa. Mohair on myös lämmittävä materiaali. Virkkuukoukun koko oli 3.5 mm.

This crochet dress was my advent project this year and I made at least few granny squares each day in increasing speed to have a finished dress by Christmas. I had made the striped top already in 2019, but left it unfinished then. Originally I had started to modify Blooming Bomber Jacket by Katie Jones, and the pockets of that jacket pattern are now shoulders of my dress. For the butterfly motif I used Tonje Crochet Butterfly Throw by Arne & Carlos. Crochet hook size for the whole project was 3.5 mm. Yarns are various mohair-blend yarns that I have bought from sales and thrift stores. Mohair is a light-weight yarn, so this dress is not heavy to wear, even though it has lots of yarn crocheted in it.

 

Baskeri ja poolo on kirppislöytöjä, hansikkaat äidin ja loput uusina ostettuja valmisvaatteita.

The beret and turtleneck are thrifted, gloves are mom's and rest is ready-to-wear.

 

Joulukalenterivirkkausta / Advent crochet project in progress

Olen aiempinakin vuosina valinnut itselleni joulukalenteriprojektin, jota väkerrän vähän joka päivä joulukuun alusta jouluaattoon asti. Tänä vuonna päätin jatkaa jo vuonna 2019 aloitettua mekon virkkausta. Tein raidallisen yläosan tuolloin, mutten osannut päättää miten jatkaa tätä vapaamuotoista projektia, joten se jäi kesken. Nyt tässä kuussa kolmena ensimmäisenä pääivänä olen virkannut helmaan isoäidinneliöitä, joista toivottavasti kehittyy ainakin polvipituinen mekko. Ja ehkä hihat myös.

I have started an advent project in December that I'll work on every day until the Christmas Eve, when the project is hopefully done. This year I decided to continue and finish this crochet dress started in 2019. I made the stripey top, but couldn't decide what kind of skirt to make. This December I plan to crochet at least one granny square each day and have a dress by Christmas. If I'm lazy, it'll be a short skirt, but if I get going, it'll be a nice full skater dress.

My previous Advent projects are this little decorative sweater bunting from 2020 and crocheted snowflakes for a shawl from 2021.

Strong contender for the Advent project were these crocheted leggings, that I like a lot, and would like to make some day.

Neulemekko / Knit dress update

 

Neuloin hieman lisää pituutta tähän pari vuotta sitten tekemääni neulemekkoon isäni hautajaisia varten. Viljantähkäkuvio oli mielestäni sopiva viittaus hänen työhönsä maanviljelijänä.

I lengthened this knit dress made couple of years ago to be worn at my Father's funeral. He worked as a farmer, so I thought it would be suitable tribute.

Neulemekko 40-luvun tyyliin / 1940s inspired knit dress

Tämä neulottu mekko on saanut muotonsa vuonna 1949 Virkkaus- ja neuletyöt -lehdessä julkaisun paidan perusteella. Improvisoin ja pyrin samankaltaiseen muotoon, mutta pidensin paidan helmaa polvipituuteen. Puikot vartalo-osiossa 3 mm, hihoissa 3.5 mm, kauluksessa ja hameen alussa 4 mm ja hameen puolivälistä helmaan 4.5 mm. Novitan Lumous-lankaa kului 6 kerää eli 1350 metriä. Lanka on hyvin kevyttä, joten mekko tuntuu ilmavalta.

This handknit dress is inspired by a peplum-top in a Finnish knitting magazine from 1949. I used very different yarn, so I improvised a lot and aimed for a similar shape, but lengthened the pepelum-hem to dress-length. The yarn is Novita Lumous and I used 6 skeins of it, which makes 1350 meters of yarn, but the yarn is very airy and it feels like wearing a cloud. I used smaller needles for the body to make it dense, 3mm, and sleeves are knitted on 3.5 mm and with the collar and top of the skirt I moved on to 4 mm and finally 4.5 mm at the hem.

Kirjoneulemekko / Meadow Moon knit dress

Neuloin mekon muokaten Jennifer Steingassin Meadow Moon -villapaitaohjetta. Musta lanka on Novita Woolia ja sitä kului noin 12,5 kerää ja vaalea on Novita Baby Merino Dream -lankaa ja sitä kului noin puolitoista kerää. Lankojen kokonaishinnaksi tuli alle kaksi kymppiä, vaikka niitä kului noin kaksi kilometriä tähän. Puikkokoko alussa 2.5 mm ja siitä hivuttautuen helman lopussa tikkusin menemään 4.5 millisillä puikoilla. Järkeilin että pieni neuletiheys kirjoneuleessa ja vartalo-osiossa pitää mekon muodossan eikä se veny. Helmassa ja hihoissa isompi neuletiheys taas säästää lankaa, vaivaa ja aikaa.

This is the first knit dress I have done, but the 2nd version of the Meadow Moon sweater by Jennifer Steingass. I tried the dress on fairly frequently while knitting it to get the fit right, and increased and decreased stitches at whim. The black yarn is discontinued Novita Wool. I ended up using 12,5 skeins of black and 1,5 skeins of the lighter yarn, which is Novita Baby Merino Dream. The yarns were on sale and cost less than 20 euros, even though I used around 2 kilometers or 700 grams of yarn for this. Needles 2.5 mm in the beginning and 4.5 mm by the end of the hem.
