Neulottu röyhelötoppi / Ruffle schmuffle top

Tämä toppi on neulottu Zanete Knitsin Ruffle Schmuffle -neulepaitaohjetta muokaten. Jätin muun muassa hihat pois, jotta tästä tuli kesäisempi. Ja prosessia nopeuttaakseni neuloin tämän pyöröneuleena ja leikkasin kädentiet ja kaula-aukon saksilla auki. Lankoina on useita eri bambu- ja puuvillaskeoitelankoina, joista yhden värin loputtua siirryin toiseen. Värejä yhdistämässä oli ohutta Hjertegarn Tweed it yourself -efektilankaa, mutta sekin loppui niin että lopuksi neulomissani valkoisissa olkaröyhelöissä käytin sitä vain  ripauksen siellä täällä. Pusero-osa on neulottu 3.25- ja 3.5-millisillä puikoilla. Putkineulokset ylä- ja alareunoihin 4-millisillä ja röyhelöt 4.5 millimetrin puikoilla.

This top in a sleeveless version of Ruffle Schmuffle top by Zanete Knits. I used several blue and white cotton, bamboo and blend yarns. And most of the way I held a novelty yarn called Hjertegarn Tweed it Yourself, that distributed tweedy speckles all over the fabric. But I ran out of that, as most of the other yarns on the ruffles, so those speckles are more sparce. Knitting needle sizes were a wide range too: 3.25 and 3.5 mm for the top. 4 mm for the i-cord edges, that I did for the neckline and hem. The ruffles were knitted on 4.5 mm knitting needles. Oh, and I steeked the sleeve-openings and part of neckline to make it easier to follow the textured pattern on the front. So, I could keep reading the knitting chart from right to left and keep the knitting momentum going.

Ommellut housut on omatekoiset. Sandaalit on ostettu kierrätyskeskuksesta ja loput asusteet normikaupoista.

The trousers are a DIY make. Shoes were bought second hand and rest of the accessories are ready-to-wear.

Verkkotoppi goottityyliin / Black widow top

Tämä toppi on virkattu yhdistellen kahta ohjetta kirjasta Crochet Like a Goth, jonka on tehnyt liettualainen Kristina Tamulevičiūtė ja jonka löysin kirjaston valikoimista. Langaksi purin jostain keskeneräisestä virkkaustyöstä mustaa puuvillalankaa, jonka olen muistaakseni ostanut Anttilan (rip) Cotton Garden -sarjan valikoimista. Virkkuukoukun kokona oli 3.5 mm.

This top is a combination of two patterns, Black Widow Top and Entrapped Tank Top, from a book called Crochet Like a Goth by Kristina Tamulevičiūtė. She is a new-to-me designer from Lithuania. I used cotton yarn that I unraveled from an unfinished project. Crochet hook size was 3.5 mm.

Kauluspaita ja legginsit ovat kirppisostoksia. Perhoskoru on omatekoinen. Hattu on uutena ostettu.

The blouse and leggings are 2nd hand finds. Brooch is DIY and hat was bought brand new.

Kirkkaan keltainen kukkatoppi / Nifty neon top

Ostettuani kesätorilta nämä kirkkaan keltaiset buutsit useita vuosia sitten, aloin haalimaan muutakin virkistävää keltaista. Tämän kesän alussa löysin tämän outlet-hameen 3 eurolla ja lankakaupan alesta kolme kerää Scheepjes Catona-puuvillalankaa. Kokeilin tehdä niistä ensin virkattua toppia, sitten löysempää verkkopaitaa, mutta kun totesin että keräni riittävät vain lyhyeen kesätoppiin, tein version Alice Camisole -ohjeella, jonka on suunnitellut Johanna Gehrisch. Olen tehnyt samalla Novita-lehdestä löytyneellä ohjeella jämälankatopin aiemminkin. Siitä tuli sporttisempi raitatoppi, mutta tämä sai alkuperäisen ohjeen inspiroimana kukkakirjailuja etumukseensa. Tällä kertaa puikkokokoina oli 3.75 mm ja 4 mm.

I had made few years ago a grey scrappy top with Alice Camisole pattern by Johanna Gehrisch. This time I started two other attempts with the three skeins of bright yellow Scheepjes Catona yarn that I had gotten from yarn store sale. But the colour and amount suited best to Alice. I used around 2.7 skeins of yarn, including the yarn needed for the flower embroidery done on the front of the top. Knitting needle sizes were 3.75 mm and 4 mm.

The boots are bought from a summer street market, as some of the jewelry. One necklase is gifted, and another is thrifted. Skirt is from an outlet shop, gotten for 3 euros. Rest of the accessories are ready-to-wear.

Raitainen ribbitoppi / Elza top

Ompelin tämän hihattoman raitatopin Fibre Mood -lehden erikoisnumeron 3 ohjeella Elza. Kangas on äitini minulle lahjoittamaa kierrätyskeskuksesta ostettua ribbineulosta, joka on alunperin maksanut vain muutaman euron. Kangaspalassa ei ollut vartalo-osion leikkaamisen jälkeen riittävästi pituutta paloihin kaula-aukkoa ja kädenteitä reunaustamaan, joten palapelitin niitä pienemmistä pätkistä ja kaula-aukon kohdalla sattui logiikkavirhe, joten raitojen suunta vaihtuu, mutta olen muuten tyytyväinen tähän ompeluprojektiin.

This top is sewn with Elza pattern that is from Fibre Mood magazine's issue number 3 from 2024. The material is stripey mystery material that my mom got from recycling center and gifted to me. And I was very pleased with the fresh French-flag-likeness of it. Sewing and cutting was fairly quick and easy, but I didn't have long enough stretches of fabric to make the neckline, so it's at an awkward angle. But I think this is going to be a summer favourite to wear.

 

Legginsit on kirpparilta ja raitapaitaan sopivat tennarit ostettu hieman vastahakoisesti uusina. En ole logomaanikko, mutta nämä Pariisin kesäpeliteemaiset kengät oli alessa ja trikolori on ihan hauska väriyhdistelmä.

The leggings were bought from thrift store and shoes were purchaded as new. I'm a no-logo-kinda-gal in general, but the French flag shoes are fun and three stripes were a Finnish brand at some point, so I reluctantly approve them.

Tuunattu trikootoppi / Patchwork singlet

Viime vuonna ompelin isäni vanhasta t-paidasta ja kierrätyskeskuksesta vitosella ostamastani kasasta t-paitoja mekon, ja siitä projektista jäi vielä ylijäämätilkkuja, joten surautin niistä tämän topin. Esikuvana oli Patchwork Singlet -ohje Birgitta Helmerssonin kirjasta Zero Waste Patterns. Kankaat ovat puuvillaneuloksia ja puuvillasekoitemateriaaleja, joten ne joustavat jonkin verran ja toppi sopii siis kevyeen treeniin.

I made last year a patchwork dress out of my dad's old t-shirt and some thrifted shirts gotten from a recycling center for a fiver. There were fabric scarps, so I decided to sew a top out of them. I was inspired by the picture of Patchwork Singlet by Birgitta Helmersson, though my patchwork squares were different size to hers. The original pattern has been published in Zero Waste Patterns book. My project wasn't quite zero waste, as some corner pieces had to be thrown away, but on the other hand there is still material left, and I would be able to sew a pair of shorts from the scraps of the scraps.

Leggings are thrifted and shoes were bought as new, but I changed the shoe-laces to customise them.

Fiftaritoppi / Top knitted with 1950s swimsuit pattern

Näin vuodelta 1954 olevassa Kauniita käsitöitä II -kirjassa lasten uimapuvun, jonka yläosa oli mielestäni hauska. Improvisoin siitä tämän topin, joka muistuttaa sopivasti sirkustelttaa tai vaikkapa faaraon kaulakäätyä. Lankoina on turkoosia Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine Silky Softia ja keltaista Novita Wool Cotton -lankaa. Puikkokoko 3.5 mm.

This top is inspired by a vintage pattern picture in a Finnish craft book from the year 1954. The pattern is a swimsuit for kids, so I had to improvise and scale up the style for myself. The result is suitably Cirque du Soleil, which is right up my alley style-wise. I used 3.5 mm knitting needles and yarns are turquoise Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine Silky Soft and yellow Novita Wool Cotton.

Solmutoppi / Jersey twist top

Hiljattain ommellusta mekosta jäi vielä kangasta yli, joten päätin saksia niistä topin Jersey twist top -ohjeella samaisesta The Great British Sewing Bee: Back to Basics -kirjasta. Muodon kokoaminen oli pieni palapelimäinen logiikkatehtävä, mutta se sujui hyvin. Kooksi olisin ehkä voinut valita hieman pienemmän senttiluvun, jolloin toppi olisi istuvampi.

I had fabric left-overs from my latest dress project and I decided to sew a top out of those. I chose Jersey twist top from the same The Great British Sewing Bee: Back to Basics book. I had just enought fabric to make the top, and I like the result, especially those fluttery butterfly sleeves. I could have chosen a smaller size to have more fitted top, but I chose closest size to my chest measurement with positive ease.

Margaritatoppi / Daisy crochet top

Tämä virkatuista neliöistä koottu toppi on tehty suunnittelija Claudia Marian Daisy Shorts and Top/Conjunto Margaridas -ohjetta seuraillen. Lankoina on kelta-oransseja keriä Katia Ombré Cottonia, valkoista kirppikseltä ostettua itäsaksalaista puuvillalankaa sekä violettiä Scheepjes Whirletteä, jonka loputtua tein piparkakkureunukset violetillä sukkalangalla. Virkkuukoukku 2.5 ja 3 mm sekä 3.5 mm neulepuikot olkaimiin.

This top is crocheted with Daisy Shorts and Top/Conjunto Margaridas pattern that is by designer Claudia Maria. I used 2.5 mm and 3 mm crochet hook for the daisy squares and 3.5 mm knitting needles to make the i-cord straps. The yarns are yellow and orange Katia Ombré Cotton, white GDR cotton from thrift store, some purple Scheepjes Whirlette and some more purple sock yarn to do the scallops on the edges after running out of the first purple yarn.

Virkattu verkkotoppi / Gradient green granny square top

Tämä toppi on virkattu saksankielistä Top im Stäbchenmuster aus Ecopuno -ohjetta seuraillen. Se löytyy ilmaiseksi, mutta vain saksaksi, Woolplace-nimiseltä sivustolta. Valkoinen lanka on kirpparilta löytynyttä itäsaksalaista valkoista puuvillalankaa, joka kiehtoi minua. Lisäksi minulla oli kokoelma uusina alesta ostettuja vihreitä lankoja, joista tein liukuväriefektin kaulukseen. Osassa käyttämiäni lankoja oli kuitenkin olemattomat pesuohjeet, joten tämän topin pesemiseen liittyy pieni riski, että värit esimerkiksi leviävät pesussa tai jokin osio kutistuu. Virkkuukoukun kokona 3 mm.

This top is crocheted with pattern Top im Stäbchenmuster aus Ecopuno that is available for free, but only in German language at Woolplace. I had found at a charity shop few skeins of 'Made in GDR' yarn, so it has been made in East Germany, and ages ago. The yarn worked all right though, and I combined it with few gradient green skeins and a darker green. There is a risk of combining diffrent yarns with sparse or non-existent washing instructions, that the colours may change or yarns may shrink in the wash. I used 3 mm crochet hook for the top.

Taskullinen pellavapusero / Elicriso top

Tämä pellavapusero on vuoden ensimmäinen ompeluprojektini. Kaava on Francesca Barbaton Elicriso, joka on julkaistu Tauko-lehdessä 8 vuodelta 2023. Lehden lainasin kirjastosta. Kankaina on alennuksesta ostettuja siniharmaita pellavia, joita yhdistelin tilkkutyyliin. Kaavan juju on isot paikkataskut, joita korostin tehden ne mallikuvasta poiketen selkeästi eri kankaasta. Toisaalta jätin pois vaihtoehtona olleet röyhelöt taskujen ympäriltä. Molempia pellavakankaita jäi vielä yli, joten saatan ommella hameen tälle topille pariksi, jos löydän sopivan ohjeen.

This linen blouse is the first sewing project of this year. I used Elicriso pattern that is by Francesca Barbato and that has been published in Tauko magazine issue 8. The fabrics used here are sales finds that I used in patchwork style to accentuate the big pockets that are the highlight of this pattern. It took around two hours to cut and sew the pattern, so it was a fairly quick project. And I have some fabrics left-over and I might make a matching skirt, when I find a suitable pattern.

Nykki-toppi / Chrysler top

Kesäkelit eivät ole vielä täällä, mutta neulevarustelu niitä varten voi alkaa jo. Lainasin kirjastosta Knitting for Olive -opuksen ja neuloin siitä Chrysler Top -ohjeella tämän spagettiolkaimisen topin, jonka on suunnitellut Pernille Larsen. Lankana on kirpparilta kahdella eurolla löytynyttä luonnonvalkoista mysteerilankaa ja sen lisänä mustavalkoista Tweed it yourself -lankaa, joka tuo mustia pilkkuja neulepintaan. Puikkokoko 3 mm.

This top for the summer is knitted with Chrysler Top pattern that is by Pernille Larsen and published in Knitting for Olive book. The yarns are off-white mystery skeins gotten from a thrift store held together with Tweed It Yourself thread that gives the knit texture black-and-white speckles. Knitting needle size used for the top was 3 mm.

Trikootoppi / Sewn for athleisure

 Ostin muutama viikko sitten käsityömessuilta vitosella pienen jämäpalan tätä trikookangasta, koska olin kirjastossa käsityölehteä selaillessani törmännyt oleilutopin ohjeeseen. Pienehkö jämäpala riitti lyhyeen paitaan, vaikka olkaimiin pitikin lisätä jatkopalat pituuden varmistamiseksi. Ohje toppiin on Kotiliesi Käsityö -lehdestä 8/2020.

I had bought a scrappy piece of stretch fabric from crafts fair few weeks ago for a fiver. It was enough to make a short top to be worn for low-intensity training, or just for leisure. The fabric has a print of swans in autumnal landscape, and whooper swan is the national bird of Finland, so the fabric is super chill with a touch of kitsch. I found the sewing pattern to match from a Finnish craft magazine.

The paperbag-waisted trousers are a DIY make, as are the mended wool socks.

Sitruunaviipaletoppi / Limonata top

Tämä toppi on virkattu Ana D:n Limonata-ohjeella, joka löytyy Pom Pom Quarterly -lehden numerosta 45. Malli oli lehden kannessa ja ostin sen juuri tämän kesäisen sitruunaviipaleita muistuttavan virkkuuohjeen takia. Käytin lankoina puuvillakeriä, joita minulla jo oli. Olin ostanut toista tarkoitusta varten Katian Ombré Cotton värisetin sekä yksittäisiä keriä Novita Cotton Softia ja Scheepjes Catonaa, joista muodostui topin liukuväriefekti. Muokkasin muotoa ja tein topistani lyhythihaisen verrattuna alkuperäisohjeeseen. Virkkuukoukun koko oli 3.5 mm.

This top is made with Limonata pattern that is by designer Ana D. The pattern has been published in Pom Pom Quarterly number 45. I had the crochet pieces as my road trip make, and after figuring out one slice of lemon I could start a production line. It took longer than expected, so last weekend I wanted to be done, and made almost half of the crochet slices and attached them together. I didn't follow the long-sleeve construction of the pattern, but made a short-sleeved top instead. I used 3.5 mm crochet hook, and the yarns are one set of Katia Ombré Cotton, and one skein of Novita Cotton sof and Scheepjes Catona each in matching colours. My top is more of lemons and oranges due to the gradient yarn balls.

Raitatoppi jämälangoista / Scrappy spaghetti western

Neulomistani paidoista oli jäänyt yli siniharmaita lankoja, jotka käytin tähän toppiin. Langoissa oli niin puuvillalanka Catonaa kuin silkkipuuvillaisia sekoitelankoja Papyrusta ja Savannahia, sekä puuvillapellavaista Bomull-Liniä. Lähtökohtana topin muodolle oli Johanna Gehrischin Alice Camisole -ohje, mutta jätin alkuperäisohjeen kukkakirjailut pois kun tästä tulikin sporttisempi. Neuleohje löytyy Novita-lehden numerosta 1/2023. Puikot 4 mm paitaan ja 3.5 mm olkaimiin.

I had left-over yarns from various projects and I decided to use them to make a top. I found Alice Camisole pattern by Johanna Gehrisch from Finnish Novita magazine. The yarn scraps include Scheepjes Catona, Rowan Savannah, Fibra Natura Papyrus and Drops Bomull-Lin. Needles were 4 mm for the top and 3.5 mm for the straps. The stripey result was somewhat sporty, so I left out the flower embroidery of the original pattern.

 Omatekoisen uuden topin lisäksi yllä on itse askarreltu pallokaulakoru. Toinen kaulakoru ja rannekoru on käsityöläismyyjäisistä, kuten myös aurinkolasit. Farmarihousut, bikinitoppi ja kengät on valmisvaatteita.

Today's Me-Made-May outfit includes the new top worn with one DIY necklace. The other necklace, armband and sunglasses are made by artisans and gotten from craft markets. Jeans, boots and the bikini top are ready-to-wear.

Tupsutoppi / Tassel top

 

Tämä puuvillatoppi on yhdistelmä kolmea eri ohjetta; muoto on Jessie Maedin My Little Secret Crop -ohjeesta, raidat Lisa Mutchin Obverse-sukista ja yläosan kirjoneule Sea Glass Hat -ohjeesta, joka on Wool & Pine -suunnittelijoiden julkaisema. Lisäksi lisäsin etualareunaan lankatupsuja. Puikkokoko 4 mm ja langat puuvilla- ja puuvillasekoitelankoja. Viime kesänä tein samankaltaisen kevyen topin, joka sopii helteisille kesäkeleille todella hyvin.

I made a top that combines three different patterns; the shape is from My Little Secret Crop by Jessie Maed Designs, the striping is from Obverse by Lisa Mutch, and the stranded section on top is inspired by Sea Glass Hat by Wool & Pine. I also added tassels on the front hem to make the top extra festive. Yarns are cottons and cotton-blends and needle size was 4 mm.

Hame ja bikinitoppi on valmisvaatteita, raitainen putkikoru ranteessa omatekoinen, kaulakoru ja toinen rannekoru berliiniläiseltä Mauerpark-torilta ja aurinkoiset prahalaiselta käsityökäistorilta.

Last summer I made another cropped top with Jessie Mad Designs pattern and it is very comfy summer wear. This new top is combined with ready-to-wear skirt & bikini top, DIY armband, and the rest of jewelry and accessories being from craft fairs where artisans sell handmade products.

Virkattu kukkatoppi / Woodstock top

 

Viimeisimmästä neulepaidasta ja muista pääosin puuvillaisista projekteista oli jäänyt jämälankoja, joista virkkasin kokoon monivärisen topin. Yhdistin kolmea eri ohjetta: neliöt on Dropsin Woodstock Weekend -ohjeesta, ympyrät Squaring the Big Circle -tutoriaalista ja idea nappilistasta ja röyhelöistä Top Granny Square Starburst -ohjeesta, jonka on suunnitellut Alejandra Ramírez. Virkkuukoukkukokona pääasiassa 3.5 mm, mutta käytin myös 2.5-millistä koukkua nappikujaan ja 2.5 mm neulepuikkoja olkaimiin. Napit tilasin virolaisesta nettikaupasta puolisen vuotta sitten ilman suunnitelmaa, mihin ne käytän, mutta puiset perhosnapit sopivat tähän kukkateemaan hyvin.

I had scrap yarns from previous projects, so I decided to use them in this crochet top. It is a mash-up of three patterns: the button band idea came from Top Granny Square Starburst that is by Alejandra Ramírez, the squares are from Woodstock Weekend by Drops Design, and the circles from Squaring the Big Circle tutorial by Kate Jenks. I used 1.5 skeins of Fibra Natura Cottonwood yarn in cream colour that were left-overs from my latest knitting project. Other yarns were half-skeins, or just few meters of yarn. Crochet hook size was 3.5 mm for most of the squares, but to make the button band extra sturdy, I used 2.5 mm hook. And the straps are knitted with 2.5 mm knitting needles to make them flat, and also the to spare the yarn that I was running low on at that point. In general crochet uses more yarn than knitting, because crochet makes a thicker fabric.

Mohairtoppi / Muguet top

Tämä neuletoppi on neulottu GentleFrenchie-suunnittelijan Muguet-ohjeella pari kuukautta sitten. Tarjouduin testaamaan ohjetta, koska topin tyyli on yhdisteltävissä niin monen hameen kanssa. Käytin paidan alaosaan lilaa Viking Baby Ull -merinolankaa ja hihoissa pääosassa on mohairlanka, joka tekee yläosasta läpikuultavan. Minulla oli varastossani Alize Kid Mohairia, jota kului lähes kokonainen 500 metrin kerä. Merinoa kului noin 1.1 kerää. Puikkokoko 4.5 mm.

This sweater is a test-knit of the Muguet top by GentleFrenchie. I finished it already couple of months ago. My top is test of the size XL, which was closest for my bust size in this pattern, and I used about 1.1 skeins of Viking Baby Ull yarn for the bottom half. A strand of mohair runs through the whole top and makes the sleeves so airy and translucent. The mohair used here is Alize Kid Mohair and I used pretty much a full 500 meter skein of mohair yarn here. Needle size in my case 4.5 mm, but the recommended starting point in the pattern is 5 mm.

The floral 1950s style skirt is mom-made as I requested one as a teenager for some function. Shoes are ready-to-wear.
