| Kuroon tällääsen. Pitäähän ny pohojalaasella olla jussipaita. Tai anttipaita eres. Myös helavyö on hyvä olla varooksi. Kuroon siis salamiakkikuvioosen pairan ja nirhaasin sen auki villatakiksi. Leikkasin saksilla, kun puukkoo on vähä huonos teräs. Yhyren napiin maltoon ommella tähän takkihin myös. I wanted to make a modification of a traditional sweater worn in my home region in Western Finland. Jussipaita is about 100-year-old garment based on an older style from Korsnäs. It's usually a simple sweater with diamond pattern in either grey and red, or blue and grey. It's mostly worn by grumpy old men, like my dad. Men in my region have also worn a metal and leather belt that is used for holding the knife. I used these elements and made my own steeked cardi. I chose to make a cardigan rather than a jumper, as it can be worn as a jacket in summer. The sweater pattern Diamond in Pink is by Motoko Takahashi and it's available for free in Ravelry. For the belt pattern I modified a Anna Zilboorg pattern seen in a library book. The yarn is cotton-blend called Novita Kota and needle 5 mm. I put in one button, so it stays in place but isn't too heavy. |

The national costume worn underneath is bought from 2nd hand store for about 40 euros, though these often cost hundreds of euros as they are handmade from quality materials. They are nowadays worn mostly by choirs and dancers who do the traditional Finnish folk dances, and for some celebrations. The mittens are me-made and scarf is mom's. |
