Teeveestä tuttu / Miss Lemon as inspiration

Eräässä instan ompeluyhteisön haasteessa innostettiin ompelemaan jokin asu, jonka on nähnyt valkokankaalla tai teeveessä. Itse olen jo pari vuotta suunnitellut neulovani rusettikauluksellisen Miss Lemon -villatakin, mutta sen muokkaaminen vaatii aikaa ja suunnittelua eikä onnistu kuukaudessa. Kaikki Hercule Poirot -sarjassa nähdyt asut ovat kuitenkin tyylikkäitä ja sieltä löytyy paljon muutakin kiinnostavaa. Sarjaa kuvattiin 1989-2014, mutta se sijoittuu 1930-luvulle. Lisäsin vielä eri vuosikymmenten vaikutteita muokkaamalla jakkua varten vintage-kaavaa, joka löytyi Burda Moden -lehdestä vuodelta 1965. Lisäksi harmaa college materiaalivalintana on aikalailla nykyaikaa. Sekasotku siis, mutta muistuttaa riittävästi esikuvaansa ja college on kätevä ja halpa materiaali. Miss Lemon casual siis.
In the online sewing community there are many challenges going on from which to pick inpiration from. I decided to look into Sewing the Scene, in which one can recreate an outfit from silver screen or small screen. I've been dreaming of the bow-neck-cardigan worn by Miss Lemon on the early episodes of the Agatha Christie's Poirot series (1989-2014). Knitting takes time though and I found many other thing dreamy too, including a smart grey jacket. This is more Miss-Lemon-casual as I chose a 21st Century material, college, and added a vintage pattern from 1965 into the mix. The pattern is from February 1965 Burda Moden but with heavy modifications. It looks close enough though, and is comfy to wear thanks to the casual material.

Kauluripipopanta / Bow-beanie-cowl

Hiljattain ommellusta pallomekosta jäi ylimääräistä kangasta ja päätin kokeilla niillä jotain. Leikkasin neljä suorakulmiota ja vetonarun. Saumurilla surauttelin reunoja yhteen ja vetonarulla kaulurin saa kiristettyä pipoksi. Rusetista tuli näin iso, koska kangastakin oli reilusti. Se on kuitenkin irroitettavissa. Koska kyseessä oli jämäkangas mahdollinen epäonnistuminen ei haitannut kovin paljoa.
I made this dress about a month ago and since there was left-over fabric I decided to try something with it. I cut four rectangles and a drawstring. This can be used either as a cowl or if drawn tight, as a messy-bun beanie. The bow is so big because there was a plenty of fabric, but it can be detached if it feels too much.

Minituunaus neuleelle / Sweater mini-refashion

Bongailen ompelupaikkoja ja -merkkejä kirppareilta ja toreilta. Tuunasin niillä pari vuotta sitten nämä alefarkut. Pirteä NASA-merkki löytyi Hietalahden torilta kesällä 4 eurolla ja parin viikon kuluttua tähtipaita 2 eurolla hyväntekeväisyyskirpputorilta. Ne tuntuivat sopivan yhteen, joten tuloksena on tämä neuleen minituunaus. 
Couple years ago I refashioned these jeans with patches. Now I found a second hand NASA patch and a star sweater within two weeks from each other, and they seemed like a match. The patch was quick to hand-stitch in place, but the effect is astronomical. I hope people won't ask me hard questions when I wear this though... 

Mekko kakkonen / Second dungaree dress

Ompelin aiemmin kesällä ruutumekon käyttäen kierrärysmateriaaleja ja Eloisa-henkselimekon kaavaa. Nyt tein mekosta pidemmän version mustana, ajatuksena että tätä voi käyttää ympäri vuoden tilanteessa kuin tilanteessa. Sorruin ehkä silti helmasyntiini, eli ylikoristeluun. Halusin kokeilla niin piparkakkureunusta, sidottavia henkseleitä kuin taskulla kikkailuakin. Ensin tein kaksi puolisydämen muotoista taskua ja reunustin ne mustalla härpäkenauhalla, mutta ne kuitenkin korostivat kovasti päärynämuotoani, joten purin ne ja leikkasin yhden kokonaisenn sydämen, jonka ompelin oikealle. Musta väri sitoo toivottavasti kaiken tämän toiminnan yhteen. Mustaa kangasta kului 1,6 metriä ja se oli kesäalessa noin 12 euroa. Valkoinen paita on omatekoinen myös.  
Earlier in the summer I made a refashioned version of the Eloisa dungaree dress by Atelier Vicolo N. 6. As I had two old blazers as the material, there wasn't enough fabric to make a longer version. But now I bought black stretchy fabric for about 12 euros and made a longer pinafore that can be worn all year round. I tried to stay minimalistic, but there were all these ideas I wanted to try: scalloped hem, tied straps and novelty pockets. I hope the black colour ties it all together though. The original idea of two half-heart pockets didn't work (it just emphasized my pear-shape), so I made one big(anatomically incorrect) heart pocket and trimmed it with fringe. The white shirt is me-made too.

Kietaisupusero / Big shoulders and a bow

Näin netin syövereissä usemmankin rusetillisen keitaisupuseron ja päätin ommella sellaisen itse. Muokkasin Burda-lehdessä 10/15 ollutta kietaisumekon kaavaa tekemällä siitä topin ja lisäämällä pitkät kietaisunauhat. Ruutu- ja raitakankaat löytyivät kangaskaupan kesäalesta yhteensä noin 10 eurolla. Niiden kontrasti näkyy kylläkin vain lähitarkastelussa.
I saw several cute wrap shirts on various blogs and online stores. Blue gingham and striped fabric were on sale in the local fabric store, so I got 80 cm each for about a tenner. The pattern is modified from a wrap dress in the Finnish edition of Burda Style 10/2015. I left the skirt out and added lenght to the front sides.

Hattarahuivi / Bubblegum shawl

Tämän huivin virkkaaminen alkoi jo tammikuussa, mutta keskeytyi kuukausiksi langan loputtua. Olin ostanut jostain marketin alekorista Novita Usvaa, jota ei enää valmisteta. Kaksi kerää kulutettuani metsästin sitten vielä yhtä samanlaista lankakerää useammasta marketista ja lankaliikkeestä. Lopulta sellainen löytyi. Ensimmäiset kaksi kerää taisivat maksaa yhteensä 3-4 euroa ja se viimeinen sitten 6 euroa. Hattaramaisen huivin ohje on saatavissa ilmaiseksi MyPicot-sivustolta nimellä Vintage Lovers.
I began crocheting this Vintage Lovers shawl already in January, but ran out of yarn. Manufacturing of this particular sort had been discontinued, so it took a few visits to various shops to locate one more skein of this peachy bubblegum pink yarn. Three skeins cost about 10 euros in total, and the pattern is available for free from MyPicot. I used 4 mm hook.

Mekko on kirpparilta ja melkein mätsäävät hiukset hieman liian pinkit, mutta ne haalistuvat toivottavasti.
The dress is a second hand find for about 2,5 euros. I also debated whether to have blue or pink summer hair, but went pink this time. It is still a work in progress and will hopefully fade to softer shade.

Pallomekko / Dotty dress

Näin kesken kukkeimman kesä alkaakin sitten valmistautuminen talveen. Tämä mekko on nimittäin suunniteltu talven varalle. Se perustuu eteläafrikkaisblogin French Navyn ilmaisohjeeseen Orla dress, josta tein pidemmän ja pitkähihaisen sekä korkeakauluksisemman. Isopalloinen kangas on tietääkseni kotimaista tuotantoa ja joltain messuilta metrin pala kympillä. Pienipalloinen askartelukaupan alesta.
As the summer is in its prime, it is time to get ready for winter. Well, not really, but I do need a winter dress and was prompted by a challenge to make my own version of The Orla Dress. It is a free pattern by a South Afrikan blog French Navy. I modified the pattern by making it longer and long-sleeved and having more high neck. I was going to make a scalloped hem, but it seemed too much, so I just hand stitched the hem in contrasting red.
