Kauriskämmekkäät / Bambi mitts

Nämä luultavasti lahjaksi päätyvät kämmekkäät on neulottu Lumi Karmitsan Bambit-ohjeella, joka löytyy kirjasta Villit vanttuut & vallattomat villasukat 3. Ohje on lapasia varten, mutta tein näistä simppelit lyhyet kynsikkäät, joihin sain käytettyä jämälankoja. Villasekoitesukkalangat Novitan Pikkusiskoa ja puikot 2.5 mm.

These are a modification of Bambit mittens from a recently published Finnish knitting book by Lumi Karmitsa. I used 2.5 mm needles and sock yarn Novita Pikkusisko. These are probably going to be a Xmas gift.

Napit vierekkäin / Buttoned up

 

Nappilistoja muutamista ompelemistani vaatteista. Napit ovat vetoketjuja luotettavampia, sillä jumiutuneita vetoketjuja joutuu uusimaan useammin. Ylimmät napit löytyivät purkuproggisten nappilaatikosta, oikealla olevia ostin ison pussin eurolla ja vasemmalla ja alhaalla olevia vintage-henkisiä muovinappeja löytyi lankakaupasta. Ompelen napinlävet isoäitini vanhalla 1970-luvun ompelukoneella, joka on melko manuaalinen, joten yleensä piirrän lyijykynällä napinläven pituuden kankaaseen, koska ommellessa etäisyyksiä on vaikea arvioida ja napilävet on millimetripeliä ja virheitäkin on sattunut.

Buttons bands from some of my sewing projects. I prefer the look and reliability of buttons over zippers that seem to get jammed relatively often. The top buttons I found from from mom's or granny's stash, the shiny plastic buttons on the right are from a big bag of buttons I got for a euro and have used in several projects, and the bottom and left are vintage-style buttons from a local yarn shop. I use my late granny's 1970s sewing machine for my sewing projects, and it is pretty manual when it comes to sewing button holes. So I have made way too big button holes by mistake, and therefore nowadays I usually draw the size of the button on the fabric with a pencil, so that it comes out reasonably sized.

Kesätoppi / Summery crop top

Aloitin tämän kesäpaidan jämälankatoppina neulomani Just Float -kaarrokeneulepaidan jämälankakerästä ja puoliskasta, mutta niiden loputtua jatkoin muilla väreillä. Paidan muoto on Jessie Maedin Summer Secret Crop -topista, olkainidea Sleeveless top -ohjeesta ja raidoitusmatematiikka Changing Stripes -sukkaohjeesta. Lankoina on harmaa ja violetti Drops Cotton Viscose, ja niiden loputtua lisäksi korkkasin uudet neulekakut harmaata ja tummanviolettia Scheepjes Whirletteä, ja käytin myös kirpparilta löytynyttä pinkkiä mysteerilankaa. Puikkokoko 4 mm.

This knit top started as scrap yarn project from the left-overs of the Just Float sweater on right, but after running out of those skein and a half of Drops Cotton Viscose I continued with some grey and dark puple Scheepjes Whirlette, and also added some thrifted pink mystery yarn. Needle size for this was 4 mm. The base is Summer Secret Crop top pattern by Jessie Maed Designs. The idea for the straps is from Sleeveless top by Adrienne Vittadini and the stipe sequence is from Changing Stripes sock pattern that is by Pirjo Brax.

The skirt is thrifted, armband is a knitted diy make and the hat is ready-to-wear.

Jäätelökesät ja -talvet / Christmas knitting in July

Nämä joko kuppikakkua tai jäätelöannosta muistuttavat joululahjalapaset on neulottu Mari Vastilan Muffinit-neuleohjeella. Lankoina Novita Nallea ja puikkokoko 2.75 mm.

These mittens that look like a cupcake or an ice cream sundae are knitted with Muffinit pattern that is by Mari Vastila and is available for free in Finnish language from Ravelry. Yarns are Novita Nalle and needles 2.75 mm.

Kellohelmahameet / Vintage circle skirts

 

Yllä kirppishame, joka on luultavasti 1970-luvun tuote haalistuneen valmistajan merkin ja paisley-kirjontakoristelun tyylin perusteella, mutta joka sopii myös 1950-luvun tyylin imitointiin. Paita on omatekoinen ja Burda Style -lehden ohjeella ommeltu.

Circle skirts, or half circle skirts, were all the rage since the New Look silhouette in late 1940s, but really scream quintessential 1950s look. This thrifted wrap skirt in more modest half-circle shape is probably from the 1970s, as it has vaguely swirling end-of-a-hippie-era paisley embroidery on it, and a faded 70s-style label. The top is sewn with a modern Burda Style magazine pattern.

Pörröraitapaita / Novelty stripes

Tämä vähän kylmempien kelien villapaita on neulottu Andrea Mowryn Stripes! -ohjeella, joskin suositusta paksummilla langoilla. Langat on erilaisia varastoistani löytyneitä tekstuurilankoja, kuten lenkkimohairia ja pörröistä nailonia. Puikot 4 mm ja 4.5 mm.

This sweater is knitted with the Stripes! pattern that is by Andrea Mowry. I used various novelty yarns that I had in  my stash, like bouclé mohair and furry nylon. They're all thicker yarns than recommended, but I chose a smaller size and bigger needles. Needles used here are 4 mm and 4.5 mm.

Kaulakäädyt / Vintage statement necklaces

Kaulakoru täydensi tyylin 1940-, 1950- ja 1960-lukujen lehdissä.

Style was complete in the 1940s , 1950s and early 1960s with a statement necklace.
