Värimaailmaa vuodelta 1979 / 70s was into brown colour

Tämän Suuren Käsityökerhon perusteella vuoden 1979 värimaailma oli rusehtava. Mutta jotenkin sekin saadaan näyttämään tyylikkäältä.

All the shades of brown with oranges and yellows seemed to be in back in 1979. Somehow all these knitting and sewing patterns look very groovy.

Kierrätysvuosikymmenet / Recycling past ideas

Tämä maksimekko tuli vastaan erään kirkon hyväntekeväisyyskirppiksellä. Se maksoi noin 6-7 euroa. Tyyliltään se on hieman 1930-luvun Hollywood-estetiikkaa henkivä, mutta valmistajan lappu ja tekokuitumateriaali paljastavat sen 1970-luvun tuotteeksi. Valmistaja on Petri of Sweden, mutta tekopaikka on Suomi, "Made in Finland". 1970-luvulla kierrätettiin ideoita ja niin 1930- kuin 1940-luvunkin muodot tulivat uudelleen muotiin, mutta materiaalit olivat halvempia.

Ideas, looks and fashions from past decades have been reused many times. This 2nd hand dress was around 6-7 euros in a church jumble sale. I was impressed with the look and wondered why it was so cheap, but after a closer look it revealed its problems. It oozes 1930s Hollywood charm, but feels plasticy. The label reveals that the material is artifical and it was probably made in 1970s in a 1970s-does-1930s fashion. It was made in Finland by Petri of Sweden back when there was much more clothes manufacturing here.

The pattern matching of this dress is not prefect as the back sema seems bit wonky. Most sewists aim to make patterns match whenever possible.

The label informs that the material is a blend of viscose and lurex.

Vintageiltalaukut / Vaguely vintage

Joidenkin vintage-esineiden ajoittaminen on vaikeaa, jos niistä ei löydy valmistajan tietoja ja tyyliltään ne voivat olla esimerkiksi niin 1960- kuin 1980-luvunkin tuotteita. Nämä iltalaukut on ostettu antiikkiliikkeistä noin 10-20 eurolla kappale. Ne sopivat monen aikakauden tyyliin, ja vain yhdessä niistä on valmistustietoja, jotka viittaavat aikaan ennen 1980-lukua.

Dating some vintage items is difficult due to missing manufacturing information, labels and their timeless look. These clutch bags are all antique shop buys for around 10-20 euros. These styles could be anything from 1960s to 1980s and I think they're still fashionable as I bought them to be worn in parties in 2010s. So they are bot wonderfully and vaguely timeless. Only one of the bags hints of its origin.

One of the purses has "Handmade in Hong Kong" text and very nice satin lining. It is definitely decades old, as manufacturing costs have risen and nowadays bags like these come from elsewhere.

60-luvun muotilähteitä / Sources for 60s styling ideas

Ideoita eri vuosikymmenten aitoihin hius- ja asustetyyleihin saa kyseisen ajankohdan aikakauslehdistä. Tässä Burda-ompelulehdessä vuodelta 1965 on samaa pinkkiä pukutyyliä kuin ostamassani vintagepuvussa. Hiukset olivat näköjään esimerkiksi polkkamallia, rusettiponinhännällä tai esimerkiksi tuperaatulla nutturalla. Toisaalta muutos 1960-luvulla oli nopeaa ja vuosikymmenen alun 50-lukua henkivä konservatiivisempi tyyli lyheni ja kirkastui loppuvuosikymmenen hippivaikutteisiin ja minihameisiin.

Great sources for ideas on how to do one's hair, makeup and accessories to match a vintage outfit are magazines from the decade in question. I thrifted this German sewing magazine Burda from 1965 and it has very similiar pink suit to my vintage find. It seems that the hip hairstyle could be anything from a bob to a ponytail to a beehive. And shoes seemed to be kitten heels. And just in few years the shortest mini shirts and hippies would burst into the fashion scene.

Pinkki puku 1960-luvulta / Details of a 60s suit

Tämän puvun ostin talvella Fida-kirpparin alepäiviltä, jolloin se oli puoleen hintaan 7 eurolla. Sen arvioin aidoksi 1960-luvuksi niin tyylin kuin valmistajan merkin perusteella. Se on kotimaista Salonne-merkkiä, ja kotipaikka Salokin on mainittu. Koko 40 vastaa aika hyvin nykypäivän kokoja. Hame on täysin vuoritettu ja jakku osin. Hameen vetoketju on metallia ja kangasta, mikä sopii aikakaudelle myös. Puku oli erittäin hyvässä kunnossa, joten se on vähän käytetty ja hyvin säilytetty.

This suit is a fairly recent purchase. I got it about 6 months ago from a charity shop in a bigger Finnish city. The original price was 14 euros, but the shop had a 50 percent sale on, so I ended up paying 7 euros for it. It is in impeccable shape and I squealed when trying it on and noticed it to be a perfect size for me. The size is 40, and there doesn't seem to be any vanity sizing here as it is pretty true to modern sizes. Often manufacturers tend to flatter their customers by giving clothes smaller size numbers than they actually are. The label confirms the true vintage origin of the suit as it has the name of the Finnish manufacturer, Salonne, that has already shut its doors.

Vintagemekon ajoittaminen / Dating a vintage dress

Ostin tämän mekon pieneltä kirpparilta noin 5 vuotta sitten alle kympillä ja ajoitin sen aidoksi 1960-luvun tuotteeksi värin ja materiaalien perusteella. Kangas on liukasta muovimaista tekokuitua, joka oli suosittua tuolloin minihameiden syntyaikana, jolloin myös räikeät värit ja psykedeeliset printit ilmestyivät markkinoille. Tekokuituihin saa tuntumaa hypistelemällä vanhempia vaatteita kirppareilla ja vintageliikkeissä tai mahdollisesti vanhempien vaatekaapissa. Vetoketju on maalattu metalliketju ja juuri metalliketju oli suosituin vaihtoehto ennen muovivetoketjujen invaasiota 1970-1980-luvuilta alkaen. Suoralta ja lyhyeltä A-linjaiselta malliltaan mekko on myös tyypillinen 60-luvun muotituote. Siinä ei ole valmistajan merkkiä tai pesuohjeita, joten tämän on luultavasti tehnyt joku taitava kotiomplelija tai koulutettu ompelijatar mittojen mukaan.

I bought this 2nd hand dress about 5 years ago for under a tenner. I dated is as a genuine 1960s make despite lack of labels or wash instructions. It must have been sewn by a skillfull home sewist or a professional seamsterss made-to-measure. The A-line is roomy and it fits me without any need of alterations. The fabric feels like plastic and is clearly of artificial fiber, but the zipper is metal which is typical to pre-1970s clothes. The psychedelic print and vibrant colours place it to the youthquake of the 60s too. It has been worn as the zipper has chipped paint, but in propably has been hidden in a closet for couple of decades as it went out of fashion and started to look dated. But now it is a happy dress for me as it definitely brigtens up a day.

Sädesaali / Sunbeam shawl

Neuloin kesähuivin ilmaisohjeella Fluorescent Sun, jonka on suunnitellut slovakialainen Priadka Handspun Art. Langat ovat puuvillasekoitteita Katia Top Rainbow ja Drops Bomull-Lin, joita kului kerä kumpaakin. Pyöröpuikko oli 4 mm. Käytin kerien loput langat hapsuihin.

I knitted a sumemr shawl using a free pattern calle Fluorescent Sun by Slovakian designer Priadka Handspun Art. I used 4 mm need les cotton-blend yarns Katia Top Rainbow and Srops Bomull-Lin. The rest of the skeins were used for the tassels.
