Baskerivillen asukkaita / Hats ahoy!

Beige ja musta baskeri ovat kirppislöytöjä ja mehiläiset olen kirjonut valmisvaatevillabaskeriin. Muuten tässä on suurin osa itselleni neulomistani ja virkkaamistani hatuista ja myssyistä.

The beige and black berets are thrifted, and the grey beret is ready-to-wear with DIY embroudery enhancements. Otherise these are most of the berets and beanies I've knitted or crocheted for myself.

The beret looks are from the tv-series Alta Mare and Agatha Christie's Marple, and from the film Little Women. For making and owning one's own vintage-style beret there is the crochet pattern from Free Vintage Crochet at center top, and the knit beret pattern from Vintage Knitting Archive.

Baskeri 40-luvun tyyliin / 1940s style Fair Isle beret

Päätin neuloa baskerin jonkin aikaa sitten neulomani Far East Pullover -paidan jämälangoista, jotta langanloput eivät jäisi lojumaan nurkkiin. Ohje on Vintage Knitting Pattern Archive -sivustolta ja vaikuttaa 1940-luvun mallilta. En seurannut ohjetta prikulleen vaan pyrin melko samankaltaiseen hattuun joka sopisi yhteen villapaidan kanssa. Tein reunuksestani monimutkaisemman kuin ohjeessa ja käytin siihen samaa pitsikuviota kuin paidassa. Siniset langat Novitaa ja valkoinen Alizen Cashmiraa. Puikot 3 mm ja 3.5 mm.

From the left-over yarns of the Far East Pullover I decided to knit a hat. I found a vintage beret pattern from Vintage Knitting Pattern Archive, and it must be from 1940s by the looks of it. The black and white photography and the hair-styles of the models look like 1940s, or possibly 1930s. And the splash of colour on the leaflet is a thrifty production method, which would suit the post-war era of 40s, when need for thrifty scrap yarn projects was greater too. It is a children's pattern and designed for thinner fingering weight yarn, and my yarns were sport or aran weights, so I modified it while knitting. I used 3 mm and 3.5 mm needles. And the yarns are mostly by Novita and Alize.

 

 

 

Rohkelikkopipot / Gryffindor hats

 

Neuloin pari pipoa Tylypahka-hengessä. Isompaan käytin ohjenuorana Hogwarts House Hats -ohjetta, jonka Sarah Belcher on julkaissut Ravelryssä ilmaiseksi. Pikkupipossa käytin vain yhtä kirjainta kyseisestä ohjeesta. Langat jämälankoja ja puikkokoko 4.5 mm.

I made these Gryffindor beanies to be gifted, and they are modified from Hogwarts House Hats pattern that is designed by Sarah Belcher. It is available for free in Ravelry. I used stash yarn and 4.5 mm needles.

Pehmeä lahjaneulepaita / Rosematic pullover

Tämä neulepaita on äidilleni, jonka kanssa olin lankaostoksilla pari vuotta sitten. Hän ei ollut neulonut mitään näistä itselleen valitsemastaan Anny Blatt Fine Kid -mohairsekoitelangasta, joten tarjouduin tekemään jotain ja näytin muutaman mallivaihtoehdon. Hän piti eniten Rosematic Pullover -ohjeesta, jonka on suunnitellut Teti Lutsak. Langan riittävyyden varmistamiseksi raidoitin muita mohair- ja alpakkalankoja mukaan, joten hihat ja kaulus ovat hieman eri sävyä. Puikot 4 mm vartalo-osiossa ja 4.5 mm hihoissa.

This sweater is knitted as a gift for my mom. I was in Helsinki with her couple yars ago and she bought the beige mohair-blend yarn, but ended up not knitting with it, so I showed her few different sweater options to choose between to have knitted for her, and she chose the Rosematic Pullover by Teti Lutsak. I was playing yarn chicken, so I used the beige Anny Blatt Fine Kid yarn held with Katia Silk Alpaca and beige mohair unraveled form another project, so the collar and sleeves are slightly different shade of beige than the body. Needle size is 4 mm for the body and 4.5 mm for the sleeves.

Lisämaskeja vaatekaappia täydentämään / Kitenge masks

Ompelin lisää kasvomaskeja Marttojen ohjeella tansanialaisten puuvillapainokankaiden jämäpaloista. Vaikka yhden ja saman kaavan ompelu on hivenen tylsää, kivat kankaat tekevät siitä hieman hauskempaa.

I made more diy face masks with a pattern by Finnish Marthas. The fabrics are left-overs of Tanzanian kitenge cottons. The fun African wax print fabrics make the process more varied, even if the repetitive act of sewing masks is bit groundhog day-ish.

Synkkää mutta sydäntä lämmittävää / Halloween knits

 

Halloween- ja kekriteemaan vaatekaapistani löytyvät omatekoiset sukat ja hansikkaat. Synkkien sukkien ja käsineiden lisäksi päällä kirppistakki ja loput on valmisvaatteita.

In the spirit of Halloween I have knitted these socks few years ago and the gloves are from few weeks ago. In addition to the diy legwear and handgear I'm wearing a thrifted coat with ready-to-wear skirt.

 

Vasemmalla 1960-luvun neuletyyliä Addams Familyn tapaan. Äiti Morticia Addams harrasti neulomista totta kai ja teki kolmihihaisen poolopaidan hirviöperheenjäsenelle. Oikealla Vaimoni on noita -sarjan Samantha, joka edustaa pehmeää ja ei niin pelottavaa magiaa mukavassa 60-luvun villapaidassaan. Keskellä ylhäällä 40-luvun kissatossut The Chawed Rosin -blogista ja alhaalla 1950-luvun neuleohje klassiseen pooloon Free Vintage Knitting -sivustolta.

For feel-good comedy, mid-century domesticity with a hint of rebellion and tame magic and monsters there are The Addams Family and Bewitched. Both television series got started in 1964, so something was in the air in that period. For knitwear inspiration the The Addams Family offers knitting Morticia and her three-armed sweater knitted for a monster family member. On the right Samantha of Bewitched looks very cosy in big knits. At the center there are the cat slippers pattern found from The Chawed Rosin blog and the 1950s turtle-neck pattern from Free Vintage Knitting.

Kissakynsikkäät / Kitten mitts

 

Nämä kämmekkäät on muokattu versio Marna Gilliganin Kitten Mittens -ohjeesta, joka löytyy kirjasta Cat Knits. Neuleohjekirja on kissaihmistä ilahduttava, sillä nimensä mukaisesti kaikki nelisentoista kirjan ohjetta pyörivät kissojen ympärillä. Näissä kynsissäissä käyttämäni langat ovat Novitan 7:ää veljestä ja Tuomasta. Puikot 4 mm. Ajattelin lahjoittaa nämä hyväntekeväisyyteen.

These mitts are a shorter version of the Kittens Mittens by Marna Gilligan and it is published in the Cat Knits book. I used 4 mm needles, and yarns by Finnish spinnery Novita. The mitten pattern is very fun, and the book is full of cool stuff for cat people, but I don't need more mitts at the moment. So these are going to charity, as there is a call for knits to be gives as Xmas gifts for children. So hopefully these will delight some cat person, or Batman fan, as the outline is quite similar.
