Toukokuun asut / Worn in Me-Made-May

 

Omatekoisten kamppeiden teemakuukausi päättyy tänään.  Eilen yllä oli omatekoinen kauluspaita ja neuletoppi. Olen osallistunut tähän 'So Zo' What do you know? -blogin Zoen aloittamaan teemaan jo vuosia. Teemakuukausi kannustaa kokeilemaan uusia ja erilaisia asuyhdistelmiä, sillä normaalioloissa sitä hiihtelee pidemmänkin aikaa lempihousuissaan, mutta kun asun kuvaa joka päivä, se kannustaa yrittämään vähän kiehtovampia yhdistelmiä.

Today is the last day of Me-Made-May, which is theme month started by Zoe of 'So Zo' What do you Know? blog. I managed to wear at least one or more handmade item each day. Yesterday I wore a sewn Pierrot blouse and knitted shell-lace top. The DIY theme month encourages to make extra effort and try new combinations, as the normal state of sticking into one's current favourite clothes often creates a visual desert where nothing new or interesting happens. I like to plan a theme, either a colour or a decade to follow, and dress according to that each day. But it is also nice to wear comfy leggins and t-shirt and cardigan at home and not protograph the chocolate-stained outfit.

Tänään päästä varpaisiin omatekoisissa vaatteissa: yllä hiuspanta, paita, haalarit ja tuunatut tennarit. Tämän toukokuun säästä johtuen juuri tämä pitkähihainen paita oli ehkä kuun käytetyin vaatekappale, kun t-paitakeleihin ei päästy.

Today I wore head-to-toe me-made clothes: headband, shirt, dungarees and refashioned shoes. This shirt was probably the most worn me-made item of the month due to the cool weather.

Puuvillainen raitaneulepusero / Summer stripes

Tämä paita on neulottu Andrea Mowryn Stripes!-ohjeella, jolla olen jo kerran tikunnut paidan. Tämä kesäisempi versio on puuvillaisesta kermanvärisestä Fibra Natura Cottonwood-langasta ja puuvilla-silkkisekoitelangasta Papyruksesta, josta käytin eri siniharmaita ja sinivihreitä sävyjä. Puikkokoko 4 mm.

This summery sweater is made with Stripes! pattern that is by Andrea Mowry. I have used the same pattern before and made a stripey pullover with fluffy novelty yarns, but this version is made with Fibra Natura Cottonwood and wool-silk-blend Fibra Natura Papyrus. All the Papyrus yarns were in various teal and dove grey shades. Needles were 4mm.

Housut alelöytö 50 sentillä, aurinkolasit käsityöläistorilta, rusetti kirpparilta ja sateenvarjo napattu äidiltä.

Trousers are a sale find for 50 cents, sunglasses from craft market and the headbow is thrifted. Umbrella is moms.

Kukkakuosikausi / Spring flowers

Viime viikonloppuna kukkamekkokauden avaukseksi yllä omatekoinen Unikko-kukkamekko ja villatakki. Laukku on kirpparilta ja muut asusteet valmisvaatteita.

Few days ago for Me-Made-May I wore a DIY dress with giant flower print in classic Marimekko fabric. The cardigan is me-made too. The bag is thrifted and rest is ready-to-wear.

Today for rainy and cold weather I wore a me-made raincoat, mitts and hat.

Haalarihommia / Dungaree days

 

Eilen yllä oli itse ommeltu haalari ja 70-luvun ompelukaavalla ommeltu pitsipaita. Laukku on äidin kirppis- tai myyjäislöytö ja loput asusteet valmisvaatteita.

Yesterday's Me-Made-May outfit included DIY dungarees and lace blouse sewn with a 1970s sewing pattern. The bag is mom's and rest is ready-to-wear.

Käytännöllisiä 1930- ja 1940-lukujen työhaalareita sarjoista Kaikenkarvaiset ystäväni ja Foylen sota sekä elokuvasta The Dig. Keskellä 40-luvun neuleohjelehtinen Ravelrystä.

Today I wore a me-made dungaree dress, that I have added a heart-shaped pocket to, and knit necklace with thrifted shirt.

Kaarrokeneulepaidat / Vintagey yokes

Eilen yllä oli omatekoinen kaarrokeneulepaita, villasukat ja tilkkukassi. Kengät ja housut on valmisvaatteita ja aluspaita on kirpparilta.

Yesterday's Me-Made-May outfit included a yoked Gardengate sweater, wool socks and sewn patchwork bag. Trousers and shoes are ready-to-wear.

Kaarrokeneuleita retrotyyliin ja vähän modernimmin sarjoista Outlander: matkantekijä, Hakekaa kätilö ja Four Weddings and a Funeral sekä elokuvasta Don't Look Up. Keskellä aitoa 1950-lukua Ravelrystä. Kaarrokeneuleet tulivat suosituiksi juuri 50-luvulla ja niitä pidetään erityisesti islantilaisina tai skandinaavisina, mutta alkuperä tai inspiraatio saattaa myös olla grönlantilaiset perinneasut, joissa on koristeellisia helmikoristeluja kaarrokeita. Neulomisen kannalta nämä on helppoja, koska saumoja ei juurikaan ole eikä kuvioita tarvitse yrittää neuloa nurjalta puolelta. Malli sopii myös niin naisille kuin miehillekin ja se on skaalattavissa eri kokoihin.

Yokes in retro and modern styles from Outlander, Call the Midwife, Don't Look Up and Four Weddings and a Funeral. At the center original 1950s looks via Ravelry. Yokes and knit-in-the-round sweaters with continous pattern around the neckline became popular from especially in the 1950s and stayed in knitting magazines as sportswear in the following decades. They're easy to knit and are adjustable for everyone from kids to adults. Seaming and working back-and-forth isn't necessary needed, so they're faster to whip up. The yoked style is often called Icelandic or Scandinavian and the popularity came from Norwegian magazines and patterns spread the style to the rest of the knitting world. But first inspiration may have been traditional Greenladic embellished clothing that have the round shape and eye-catching colours.

Sormikaspaikat / More mended gloves

 

Olin korjannut puhki kuluneet etusormen ja peukalon punaisesta sormikasparista jo aiemmin, ja nyt vastaavia korjaustarpeita ilmeni muissakin valmisvaatekäsineissä. Neuloin pienet hatut latvialaisesta tiukkakierteisestä kestävästä villalangasta 2 mm puikoilla ja ompelin ne paikalleen sormenpäihin. Se onnistui parhaiten pitämällä korjattavaa käsinettä vasemmassa kädessä ja heiluttelemalla neulaa oikealla.

I had mended a pair of red ready-to-wear gloves couple of years ago. And exactly same places keep getting holes on my gloves, the index finger and thumb. So I made more mending with the same method of knitting small hats for the fingers and sewing them in place. And I noticed that the sewing is easiest to do while wearing the glove, but luckily I didn't poke my fingers too hard with the needle.

Today's Me-Made-May outfit included a DIY dress and brooch with thrifted jacket that I've mended, and a fish-shaped bag that I've attached a handle to. Rest of the accessories are ready-to-wear.

The plaid coat is 2nd hand find that I've refashioned a bit to fit me, and the shawl and brooch are DIY makes. Worn on 16th of Me-Made-May.
