Summer Finland has many exhibitions and museums that are open only in tolerable temperatures when Finns are more willing to venture outside. I went to see traditional Finnish Ryijy rugs in an old preserved farm house in Western Finland, in my home region. The textile art was in buildings and barns and showed beautiful techniques and colours that made for aesthetically exhilarating experience. To see handmade thigs I wore my handmade trousers, shirt and i-cord necklace. |

The technique of rug-making probably was brought to Finland from Middle East by the neighbouring Vikings. Here the warm wool textiles were practical and were further developed into unique textile art with local motifs. |
