Vanha hyvä Praha / Good old Prague

 

Praha oli kotikaupunkini vuoden verran muutama vuosi takaperin. Kauniissa Prahassa oli mukava tehdä jatkuvasti uusi löytöjä ympäristöstä.
Prague was my hometown for a year and it is great place to live in and explore.

Hopeavuori / Kutná Hora



Kutná Horan kaupungin nimi tarkoittaa hopeavuorta ja alueella on pitkä historia kaivosteollisuudessa. Varoilla on rakennettu paljon kaunista ja kaupungista löytyy parikin Unescon maailmanperintökohdetta.
The name of Czech town Kutná Hora means Silver Mountain and area has long history in mining, which has brought wealt to build beautiful churches and other buildings. Unfortunately I lost most of my pictures from here when a memory card broke down.

Pastellilinna / Český Krumlov

Český Krumlovin kaupunki on kaunis ja sen ylle kurottaa tottakai linna, josta on pastellinpunainen torni.
The city of Český Krumlov in Southern Bohemia is picture perfect. There is a castle with a pastel pink tower to top it all.

Etelä-Böömiä / České Budějovice



České Budějovice on keskuskaupunki Etelä-Böömissä. Itse ihastuin kaupungin moottori- ja polkupyrämuseon kokoelmiin.
The city of České Budějovice is also known as Budweis. For me the most interesting sight was the local motorcycle museum though. 

Pilsnerin koti / Sights of Plzeň

Plzeňin kaupungin päänähtävyys on oluttehdas, mutta muuten paikka tuntui vähän hiljaiselta.
Plzeň is home of a certain beer Companyt and its factory turned out to be the main sight of the city.

Tsekin aarteita / If ever in Czech Republic



Näin lomakaudella tulee omat lempipaikat mieleen. Karlovy Varyn kylpyläkaupunki Tsekin tasavallassa on kaunis pikkupaikka, jossa on menneen maailman hurmaa. Siellä järjestetään kesäkuussa myös filmifestivaali. Koristeellisessa kaupungissa on paljon Grand Budapest Hotelia, kaupungissa on iso vanha kaunis hotellikin.
If ever in western Czech Republic, one should visit the old spa town of Karlovy Vary. It has plenty of charm and the largest hotel in town has likeness to fictious Grand Budapest Hotel. There is also a film festival in town every June. I was there few years ago and spent most of time queueing for movie tickets in rain with my friends, but managed to see some glamour too.

Hamletin linna / Hamlet was here, in theory

Tanskan Helsingørissä Juutinrauman rannalla sijaitsee vahtipaikalla linna, jonne fiktiivinen Hamlet on sijoitettu asumaan.
The castle of Elsinore in Denmark is the place where Hamlet has been set to live in the famous play. The Place was chosen By Shakespeare perhaps due to its reputation among touring English theater groups, some of which had landed to these shores as well.

 

Saksalainen satulinna / Neuschwanstein

Neuschwansteinin linna Baijerissa rakennettiin kuninkaan unelmien mukaan 1800-luvulla. Se on ollut esikuva monelle Disneyn pirroselokuvan unelmalinnallekin. Pääsin käymään täällä muutama vuosi sitten opiskelijaystävien kanssa ja junamatka sinnekin oli kaunis kokemus.
Neuschanstein castle in Germany was built to match the dreams of the Bavarian king in the 1800s. Later on its shape has inspired a few Disney film castles. I got to see Neuschanstein on a beutiful winter day few years back with some student friends. The train ride there through German countryside was already a lovely experience.

Kuvauksellinen linnoitus / Bouzov Fortress

Bouzovin linna Määrissä Tsekin tasavallassa on ollut kuvauspaikkana useissa elokuvissa. Paljon alkuperäisestä keskiaikaisesta asusta ei ole jäljellä, mutta uudistukset ovat onnistuneita.
Bouzov Castle is located in the middle of Moravian countryside in Czech Repuclic. Little of the medieval origins has survived, but the renovations are so pleasing to the eye, that many movies have been filmed here.

Koristeellista / Danish pastel palace

Frederiksborgin linna Tanskassa on niin koristeltu että pää menee pyörälle.
Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark is very decorated and very lovely. Made me wish eating inside would be allowed; I would take macarons with me.

Naapurilinna / Castle as a neighbour

Läckön linna Ruotsissa Vänernin rannalla on valittu joskus Ruotsin kauneimmaksi linnaksi, ja tämä omassa rauhassa saarella oleva paikka on todellakin kaunis.
Läckö castle has been chosen the most beautiful castle in Sweden, and it is no wonder. It is very nice and on a lovely spot by a lake far away from any cities. These sheep have a great peaceful neighbourhood. 

 

Linnaunelmia / Castle dreams

 

Linnaunelmien pöyhimiseen paras paikka Suomessa on Turun linna. Siellä on mukava käydä muutaman vuoden välein ja kuvitella itsensä vaikkapa entisaikojen asukkaaksi. Luultavasti aikamatkaillessa sitä päätyisi kuitenkin piiaksi. Tai Jaakko Ilkan sukuun kuuluvana lennähtäisi keskiajalle jonnekin käymälöiden tietämille...
Like many others, I occasionally dream of being a castle owner, or travelling back in time to be one. Though it is more likely to to end up scrubbing the floors of the castle than living in one... This is the castle of Turku in Finland, and one of my favourite castles. I do have a connection to this, as one of my forefathers was captured and sent here for imprisonment during a peasant uprising about 400 years ago. He escaped via latrines, but was later recaptured and killed. Cool ancestor, but due to the long and broad family line, thousands of other people are related to him as well.

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen is a classical museum, which has fascinating building in addition to its art collection.

Bukarestista päähän / Hat from Bucharest

Romanian kiertomatkalta päähän jäi tämä Bukarestista perinteisestä hattukaupasta ostettu turbaanihattu. Neule teninivuosilta.
I toured Romania following a local wedding that I was invited to, and ended the trip in Bucharest. There I got this turban hat from a traditional hat shop. The sweater is from teeange years.

Vintage-Praha / Vintage Prague

 

Pallollinen potkupuku, jakku sekä kirja ovat kirppislöytöjä Prahasta. Hattu ja poolo muutamilla euroilla kirpputoreilta Suomesta.
The polkadot pantsuit, blazer and book are all second hand finds from Prague. The turtle neck and hat are second hand purchases from Finland.

 

 

Riian markkinat / Rigan markets

Jugend-kaupunki Riika on soma ja sen sokkeloisilla kujilla on mukava eksyä. Tämä hame on torikojusta Riian keskusmarkkinoilta ja kaulakoru käsityöläismyymälästä Riiasta.
Latvian capital Riga is a pretty art noveau jewel and has cozy small streets to roam. This skirt is from a market stall at the Riga central market. The laced necklace is Latvian handicraft from a Rigan boutique.

 

 

Löytöjen Tallinna / Tallinn teddy bear

 

Tallinna ei ole kovin kaukana ja siellä tekee aina käsityölöytöjä. Nallen mallinen koru on virolaista käsityötä. Kirppishame Tallinnasta, neuletakki ja kengät kirppislöytöjä kotimaasta.
Estonian capital Tallinn is not very far away, either in distance or spirit. But it is excellent Place for craft finds. The Teddy bear brooch is Estonian handicraft bought from Tallinn. The skirt is from a second hand shop in Tallinn. The cardigan and shoes are Finnish second hand purchases.
